I wanted influence, until I learned this
I used to deeply desire the ability to influence others. I learned I never truly can
As a young guy, I never thought about how quickly I would mature as I aged. You can’t really fathom the rate at which you will learn, but as you age, your capabilities to learn compound before they decline in your geezer years. (Can I say that? lol)
Anyways. When I was younger, I wanted so badly to have an influence and to have the capability to develop or persuade people to take positive action for their own good and our mutual benefit.
I was always a dreamer, had big aspirations, and wanted to lead others to be their best selves.
That never really happened to the extent that I wanted. And it is likely a great thing, young men with influence rarely use it for the best purpose.
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
Galatians 6:7
The only influence I have realized has true power and life-changing meaning is that which comes from the Holy Spirit.
I learned that when it comes to influencing someone, you can only motivate them 20–30% of the time. People can only make decisions for themselves. And if this is true, the only true power that can convince someone to do good for themselves is the power of Christ.
So if I have the Holy Spirit in my heart, and I do, because I accepted Christ into my heart, the only way I can truly have a massive influence in this world is by connecting deeper with the Holy Spirit and allowing Him to work through me.
This has been one of the most humbling realizations of my lifetime.
I love it. That is all. I hope you have a blessed week.
